Can you imagine never having to stop at a gas station again? For many electric vehicle drivers, this is a reality. Battery electric vehicles never need gas, and plug-in hybrids might use little to no gas for short trips. EV charging is simple, cost-effective, and convenient, especially when charging at home. Imagine you go to bed with an empty battery, and you wake up, and it's full, no more, running late because you had to stop and fill up. Level 1 is the slowest method of charging but is sufficient for drivers who charge overnight and travel 30–40 miles daily. For Example, Jeep's PHEV battery can be fully charged in about 12 hours. Jeep's Level I charging system comes standard across all 4xe models and plugs into a typical household outlet. Charging cables usually come with a vehicle and plug into a standard 120–volt AC outlet with no equipment installation required. Level 1 charging works well for charging at home, work, or anywhere a standard outlet is available.

Level 2 Charging

Level 2 charging is faster than Level 1 but requires a professionally-installed charging station with a 240-volt outlet. These stations are known as electric vehicle supply equipment or EVSE. EVSE requires a dedicated 240–or 208–volt electrical circuit, similar to what is needed in a clothes dryer or electric range. It uses the same standard connector as Level 1 charging, meaning any electric vehicle can plug in at any Level 2 charger. The battery of your EV can be fully charged in approximately 2 hours using an available Level 2 charger. Jeep has made it easy to install a Level 2 EVSE in your home. They have partnered with Qmerit to make installing a Level II charger at your home simple. For most home configurations, it's as easy as providing some information about your home layout and electrical panel.

DC Fast-Charging

DC Fast-Charging is available at many public charging stations. The "DC" stands for "direct current" in this type of power. This is the fastest level commonly used, with up to 40 miles of range for every 10 minutes of charging. However, due to the high cost of these stations, they're not suitable for home installation.
