Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel To Arrive!

After what seems like an eternity of waiting Jeep has finally unveiled a diesel-powered Wrangler! The new 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel is expected to dominate on and off the road thanks to increased torque numbers. The EcoDiesel engine also provides the Wrangler with better fuel economy! Increased fuel economy means the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel wins the title of longest driving range. We’re beyond excited to get these new diesel-powered Wranglers on our lot, but while we wait for them to get delivered we figured we’ll tell you everything we know about them!

Underneath the hood of the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel is a third-generation turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. The latest rendition of the EcoDiesel engine delivers minimal NVH or noise, vibration, and harshness levels along with superior fuel economy. The significant improvements to the engine’s fuel economy and driving dynamics are due to several advancements in design. One of these advancements was to the completely redesigned lightweight alloy pistons. The piston pin has also been offset from the centerline by 0.3 millimeters which inturn improved NVH.

All of these upgrades build on top of the already incredibly successful EcoDiesel V6 engine, the last generation of this engine was the winner of “Wards 10 Best Engines” for three years running in 2014, 2015, and 2016!

So what does all this mean for performance numbers you ask? It means the Wrangler EcoDiesel is rated to produce 260 horsepower and an incredible 442 lb-ft of torque. Jeep then paired the EcoDiesel engine which features engine stop-start technology with a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission that is capable of handling the immense amount of torque produced by the engine.

The EcoDiesel engine will be available in the four-door Unlimited Wrangler in the Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon trim levels. All variations of the Wrangler EcoDiesel will be paired with a third-generation Dana 44 front and rear heavy-duty axles and have a 3.73 axle ratio. The Wrangler EcoDiesel Rubicon will come with Jeep’s Rock-Trac two-speed transfer case that features a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. All other models will come standard with the Command-Trac part-time two-speed transfer case 4x4 system. This system utilizes a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio.

The world-renowned 4x4 systems used in the Jeep Wrangler are complemented by impressive approach, breakover, and departure angles. The Wrangler boasts a best-in-class approach angle of 44 degrees, a 27.8-degree breakover angle, and a 37-degree departure angle. The Wrangler also utilizes a 10.9-inch ground clearance so you can drive right over objects in your path.
