Drivers can choose from two available engines for the Grand Cherokee L. Standard equipment is a 290-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine with 257 lb-ft of torque. However, if you're searching for more power, you'll find what you're looking for with the available 5.7L V8. This kicks out 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. When the V6 models are equipped with the optional Trailer Tow Package, the Grand Cherokee L can haul up to 6,200 pounds. Meanwhile, the V8 models can haul up to 7,200 pounds when properly equipped. Both engines are mated to a sturdy TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission with fuel-saving eTorque technology.

Quadra-Trac I provides full-time 4WD traction by splitting torque by 48% to the front axle and 52% to the rear axle with a single-speed transfer case. Quadra-Trac II, on the other hand, employs a two-speed transfer case with Active 4-Low. This system can sense a loss of traction and automatically redistribute up to 100% of the engine's available torque to counteract the slip. Additionally, the Active 4-Low mode gives drivers optimal control in low-speed crawling situations. Like Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II employs a two-speed transfer case, Active 4-Low, and automatic torque redistribution. However, Quadra-Drive II sets itself apart with an electronic limited-slip rear differential to even further the traction control. All 4x4 variants of the Grand Cherokee L come standard with Jeep's Selec-Terrain. This traction management system allows drivers to customize their ride by choosing Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud modes. In addition, the drivetrains with Active 4-Low mode add Rock mode to the Selec-Terrain dial. In addition to the superior 4WD capability and selectable drive modes, the Grand Cherokee L is also available with Quadra-Lift air suspension. This four-corner air shock system allows drivers to choose a ride height setting of up to 10.9 inches of ground clearance from the normal ride height of eight inches. The available Quadra-Lift system also features adaptive damping, which senses road conditions and automatically adapts to provide a smooth ride.
