2021 Grand Cherokee vs Ford Explorer Cerritos CA
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Ford Explorer
So, it's time to purchase a new SUV, but which one is right for you? This can be a tough question as there are so many makes and models on the market today, but we here at Cerritos Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM want to help! We have taken two of the most popular models out there in the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ford Explorer and compared them so you have a better idea of which one you should be driving home. While both of these SUVs come with powerful engines and some technologically advanced features, which one has the edge? For the answer, continue reading!
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the perfect SUV for those looking for a ton of power. It comes with four robust engines that should satisfy all kinds of drivers. Coming standard on most trims is a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out an impressive 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. When you get to the Trailhawk, Summit, and Overland trims, you have the option of a 5.7-liter V8 which is capable of producing 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Things get even more exciting when you get to the SRT trim as it comes with a 6.4-liter V8 that dials the horsepower up to 470 and the torque to 475 lb-ft. Still not enough power for you? There is always the Trackhawk! It has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that delivers a wonderful 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. All of these amazing engines come with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel-drive. If you decide on the SRT or the Trackhawk, you get a standard performance-oriented four-wheel-drive system.
2021 Ford Explorer Power & Handling
Unfortunately, there are only two engine options available for the Explorer, but you do get some decent power with both. Most people who drive in an Explorer will get a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that pumps out 303 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. You get more power with the ST trim, which comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that delivers 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Both engines pair with an automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive. All-wheel-drive is an available option if you choose. There is a lot to love about these power numbers, but they are less than the higher-level trims of the Grand Cherokee offers.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design
There are seven impressive trim levels available for the Grand Cherokee, and each of them gets a bevy of tech and luxury features. The Laredo starts things off well with 18-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Then there is the Limited, which adds a sunroof, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, auto-dimming mirrors, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. If you're looking to head out into the wilderness, then you'll love the Trailhawk trim, which has all-terrain tires, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, underbody skid plates, off-road-tuned air suspension, all-terrain drive modes, and ventilated front seats. Higher trims of the Grand Cherokee add more premium features such as xenon headlights, all-leather seating, a power-adjustable steering column, chrome exterior trim, Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned adaptive suspension, and black exterior trim.
2021 Ford Explorer Features & Design
Only five trims are available for the Explorer, so there are a few fewer features here. The base trim starts things with a power liftgate, tri-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Then, the XLT adds to the mix with roof rails, keyless ignition/entry, heated front seats, and second-row USB ports. You get more luxury items with the Limited as it comes with interior ambient lighting, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-speaker audio system. Higher trims round things out with paddle shifters, sport front seats, an automated parking system, adaptive headlights, a digital gauge cluster display, and a Class 3 Trailer Tow package.
Conclusion:
We think there are merits to both SUVs, but in the end, we are going to choose the Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee comes with more impressive engines, and the seven trim levels it has far surpassed what the Explorer has to offer. Are you prepared to get behind the wheel of the Grand Cherokee?
