Optional for the whole lineup is a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine with 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. In addition, all Wrangler Unlimited models (four-door) are eligible for the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 that pumps out 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. Introduced for the 2021 model year is the 4xe powertrain, which mates two electric generators powered by a 400-volt rechargeable battery pack with the 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine. While the Wrangler’s design is iconic, its off-road chops are even more so with three legendary Trail Rated 4x4 drivetrains. The first is Command-Trac. This part-time 4x4 system allows drivers to select their traction level. When driving on dry road surfaces, drivers should choose two-wheel drive. When off-roading or driving on inclement road conditions, drivers can choose 4-High or 4-Low, engaging the rear wheels and setting a gear ratio to best suit the vehicle’s speed. Once in four-lock, the axles will spin at the same speed, providing fantastic traction. Rock-Trac 4x4 is standard exclusively for the Rubicon trims. Also a part-time system, Rock-Trac’s transfer case is optimized to handle some of the most challenging terrains the world has to offer with ease. 4-High should be used driving on snow and loose gravel. Meanwhile, 4-Low should be used when navigating challenging off-road trails at low speeds. Rock-Trac offers control crawling up rocks even at half a mile an hour with the manual transmission.
