All-New Efficient Hurricane Twin Turbo I-6

There are two versions of the 3.0-liter Hurricanes, a 420-horsepower, 468 lb-ft of torque standard output, and a 510-horsepower and 500 lb-ft torque high-output. The Wagoneers comes with the 420-horsepower standard output engine, and the Grand Wagoneer L gets the 510-horsepower high-output version. When the Wagoneer is equipped with the Hurricane engine, it can tow an outstanding 10,000 pounds, and when in the Grand Wagoneer L, it can haul 9,750-pound

These engines achieve V-8-rivaling performance while being up to 15% more efficient than larger engines. For example, the Hurricane Twin Turbo engine achieves up to 24 mpg on highways. A rear-wheel-drive Wagoneer L with the standard output Hurricane delivers an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined. The high-output Hurricane comes only with four-wheel drive, and the EPA estimates plummet to 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. 

The inherently smooth-running inline-6 engine employs state-of-the-art engineering and technologies that include two low-inertia, high-flow turbochargers for rapid response to throttle inputs, plasma transfer wire arc coating in the cylinder bores for an ultra-thin, low-friction wear surface and high-pressure direct fuel injection. The Hurricane's aluminum blocks also feature a closed deck design to maintain and survive the high cylinder pressures of the Hurricane's forced induction. These injectors pump out 5,075 psi per 350 bar. Each Hurricane Twin Turbo engine uses a double overhead camshaft valvetrain layout with four valves per cylinder. Intake and exhaust cams have independent timing, with up to 60 degrees of advance on the intake and 55 degrees on the exhaust.
