Jeep Adds Wrangler 4xe Charging Stations in CA
Jeep's first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the Wrangler 4xe, has joined the Jeep lineup as one of the most capable hybrid vehicles on the market. With the Wrangler's iconic off-road capability and open-air design, and the fuel efficiency of a hybrid, the Wrangler 4xe is the ultimate off-roading machine. In addition, the Wrangler 4xe's 21-mile electric driving range allows drivers to take the vehicle's top off and enjoy the sounds of the world around them with virtually no engine noise. Jeep wants to help drivers enjoy this, which is why they've started the Jeep 4xe Charging Network. This network will place EV charging stations at the trailheads of Jeep Badge of Honor off-road trails, including ones right here in California! Keep reading below to learn more!
How will the Jeep 4xe charging stations work?
The Jeep 4xe Charging Network stations will employ Level 2 Electric Vehicle Chargers. These advanced chargers provide an EV battery pack with a full charge in just two hours instead of the twelve hours taken by the standard Level 1 EV charger. Jeep is working closely with the leaders in EV charging networks, Electrify America, to place solar-powered charging stations at each of the 56 Jeep Badge of Honor trailheads across the country. Additionally, Electrify America has developed a custom smartphone app for Jeep 4xe owners to log into and enjoy free charging at Jeep 4xe charging stations. This allows drivers to start charging their 4xe vehicle and monitor their charging session right from their smartphone.
Will there be Jeep 4xe charging stations here in California?
Absolutely! In fact, six of the Badge of Honor trails are here in California. Starting with perhaps the most famous off-road trail in North America, the Rubicon Trail. Nearby, you'll find Badge of Honor trails like Gold Mountain, Holcomb Creek, and John Bull in Big Bear City. Other Jeep Badge of Honor trails in California include Dusy-Ershim in Shaver Lake and the Pinyon Mountain Trail in Borrego Springs, all scheduled to get 4xe charging stations. The Rubicon Trail and Gold Mountain were the first Jeep Badge of Honor trails in California to receive Jeep 4xe charging stations. Future locations across the country are scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2021.
Will Jeep release more 4xe vehicles?
Jeep has revealed that the Grand Cherokee will be the next vehicle to come with a PHEV powertrain option. The Grand Cherokee 4xe will be released for the 2022 model year. Jeep also has plans to offer a 4xe PHEV option across the entire lineup by 2025. With that being the case, the 4xe Charging Network and Jeep's custom Electrify America app will support all future 4xe models and provide free charging.
