Top Off-Roading Trails in Southern California

You can find this trail in the San Bernardino National Forest, and it will offer drivers scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the Mojave Desert. It is a moderate trail with some steep sections and rock obstacles. The total length of this trail is 15.2 miles and is open to all vehicles running from the Cleghorn ridge and ends at State Highway 138. This route offers extensive views of the desert and Cleghorn Ridge, and once you are further up the trail, you should start seeing Lake Silverwood, especially when you reach the top. 

The Mojave Trail is a historic trail that runs through the Mojave Desert and will give you a state of the rich history of the area. Here you will find a trail that is a mix of dirt roads, sand dunes, and rocky sections and can sometimes be challenging. This is an east-west route that is around 150 miles long and goes from the Colorado River to the Mojave River near Wilmington, Los Angeles, CA. Much of the Mojave Road rests between the boundaries of the Mojave National Preserve, and the road will enter the park near Piute Spring. It's a road with a rich history that dates back to indigenous people who used it to transport goods. 

This trail offers stunning views of Big Bear Lake and the surrounding mountains. It is a challenging trail with steep climbs, rocky sections, and narrow passages. This consists of several trails in and around Big Bear, CA, and is the perfect experience for those who are experiencing off-roading for the first time or those who are more experienced. If you're a beginner, we recommend starting with the Big Pine Flat Trail, which is around 26.6 miles long with finely compact dirt roads and a creek but has enough space for two vehicles to cross paths. If you want something a little more challenging. More experienced off-roaders will want to check out the Gold Mountain Trail, which takes you to the top of the mountain.  

Next, we have the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which has several Jeep trails to explore, including the Coyote Canyon Trail and the Arroyo Salado Trail. The trails offer scenic views of the desert landscape, including rock formations and wildflowers. The park's rugged landscape is primarily formed by erosion from the uplifted mountains. You can find this park two hours outside of San Diego, and is gorgeous to look at during the day and very serene at night. On your way to this trail, you will see artist Ricardo Brecarda's 130 enormous metal sculptures of animals that once roamed the area, including a 350-foot-long serpent.

Finally, there is the Joshua Tree National Park which is a park with several Jeep trails, including the Geology Tour Road, which offers stunning views of the park's unique rock formations. This park is just outside San Bernadino and is named after the Joshua Trees native to the Mojave Desert. Redesigned as a national park in 1994, there are several miles of off-road trails here, including the Lose Horse Loop, which is 6.5 miles long and perfect for beginners while offering lovely scenic views. If you want something more challenging, check out Old Dale Road, which is 26.3 miles long and has tons of rocky terrain to go over!
