Your Guide to the Ram 1500 Bed: Length, Width, Cargo Area & More

The Ram 1500 bed size is one of the most enticing parts of this legendary full-size pickup truck. The Ram 1500 accommodates up to 61.3 cubic feet of box cargo with a max payload of 2,360 pounds,1 making it a high-end pick for your work or play. At Cerritos CDJR, you’ll have the opportunity to check out this truck in person. Let’s explore what the 2026 model offers.

Ram 1500 Express Quad Cab Compared to the Ram 1500 Lone Star Crew Cab Bed Size

Bed Size by Cab Style

The new Ram 1500 for sale features two bed lengths (6-foot-4-inch and 5-foot-7-inch) and two cab types (Quad and Crew). Depending on your trim level, you may have access to all configurations or just a single one. Here is how the cabins are split up.

Quad Cab

The standard cabin for the Ram 1500 provides functional legroom for the rear row. Perfect for worksites, the Quad Cab has the higher payload of the two cab types. However, it only comes with the larger 6-foot-4-inch bed. Enjoy a more expansive bed at the cost of some interior volume.

Crew Cab

Every trim of the Ram 1500 can access the Crew Cab. This is the larger of the two options, which means it has slightly less payload capacity due to the heavier chassis. The benefit is that the Ram 1500 Crew Cab allows you to choose between the 6-foot-4-inch bed or the 5-foot-7-inch bed.

With a variety of configurations and trim levels available for our Ram trucks, which one works best for your needs?

Camping

For camping trips, we recommend a Crew Cab with a 5-foot-7-inch box. This setup maximizes interior capacity while providing ample room for up to six passengers, so you can bring the whole family and the coolers in the back. With a towing capacity of up to 11,510 pounds when properly equipped with the 3.0-liter Hurricane, you can also bring smaller campers along for the ride, upgrading your outdoor experience as you get to a clearing.

Work

If you’re in the market for a work truck, a Tradesman with a Quad Cab and a 6-foot-4-inch bed works best. This configuration unlocks the maximum payload capacity of 2,360 pounds,1 vastly improving the truck’s ability to move heavy equipment around the worksite. The Quad Cab doesn’t offer much interior space in the second row, but it does seat an extra row of passengers if you need to bring coworkers around the site.

Hauling

If your goal is to carry bulky equipment, the Quad Cab with a 6-foot-4-inch bed is again effective. As stated in the Work section, the Tradesman with the Quad Cab has the highest payload capacity of the Ram 1500 lineup, providing the most wiggle room for carrying furniture, supplies, or small machines. If you prioritize towing, the 3.0-liter Hurricane is an excellent option, though it does somewhat reduce your payload capacity. Please check the specifications as you scan our Ram 1500 lease deals, so you can find the best weight limits for your hauling journey.

Take particular note of the Ram 1500 bed volume differences. The 6-foot-4-inch bed has an additional 8.5 cubic feet of space compared to the 5-foot-7-inch one. This isn’t a significant change; the smaller bed will still be more than capable of hoisting items like furniture, a motorcycle, or surfboards. However, the standard 6-foot-4-inch bed does have additional space. If you often carry items, the larger bed gives you more breathing room thanks to its extra length.

Bed Features

Bed Features

Pure cubic footage is only one benefit of choosing a Ram 1500. You also receive a bevy of standard and available features, including:

  • Cargo Tie-Downs: These cords function as securing devices, keeping your cargo from shifting too much as you drive. You can also get four adjustable cargo tie-down hooks for even greater control over your gear.
  • Cargo Lamp: Get a clear view of the pickup box with a cargo lamp – perfect for loading at night or on the jobsite.
  • Bed Step: A deployable assistance step helps your crew and family climb into the back of your truck, making it the place to be during parties.
  • RamBox Cargo-Management System: A lockable, waterproof storage compartment lines the back of your tailgate, perfect for bringing along tools, coolers, or wet gear.
  • Multi-Function Tailgate: This available feature allows you to open your tailgate like a pair of barn doors (60/40 split), allowing for easier loading, even when the trailer is hitched.
  • Bed Utility Group Package: This package includes utility tools for properly carrying cargo, including tie-down hooks, a bed step, a spray-in bedliner, and LED box lighting. It also comes with a 115-volt AC outlet so you can power tools directly from your truck’s bed.

These standard and available amenities can do wonders to keep your cargo in a safe spot and make storing items on your Ram 1500 easy.

The best car buying experience I have ever had. I was assisted by Diego Franco who was very patient, knowledgeable about my family’s needs, and most important non-pushy/non-pressure sales. He and his team gave us a very fair offer for our trade, we negotiated a great deal on a RAM truck and the finance process was seamless! No pressure, no sneaky add-ons attached to the financing, and everybody won. This is what vehicle purchasing should be! Highly recommend.
